about time...

Refinishing furniture is not the business I would like to be in. It's fun and all but it takes forever and my thumb is still numb from the sander. I finally finished redoing my Granny's china cabinet, serving buffet, dining room table, and coffee table.

I posted pics of my Granny's furniture a few months ago asking for any ideas on how to redo them. Kristen's sweet (and oh so cool and beautiful) sister-in-law offered to help and if I lived close by I would have used her for sure. She has a store called 4love in Dallas where they refinish vintage furniture. Anyways, when I posted the pics of the furniture a reader commented with a link to her friends blog who had just recently refinished a china cabinet. Her blog post is here and was very helpful to get me started. I downloaded this book and followed her directions.

It was a lot of steps but everything was pretty easy to do and I love how everything turned out. The first thing we did was sand. Then we sprayed a kilzs on, let it dry and sprayed another coat. Then we sanded again. Then I painted two coats of Interesting Aqua by SW. (sanding in between coats) Then I took an electric sander and roughed up the edges. Then I put on a glaze. And the final step was sealing it with polyurethane. With the dining room table I didn't rough up the edges or put a glaze on, I just left it white. Powdered Snow was the paint color I used for coffee table and dining room table. I glazed the coffee table so it is a little more antique white. I still have to repaint the dining room chairs, but I'm hoping those won't take as long. And then there is still a dresser and two end tables! I might take a break for a few months before I get started on those:)

They look great and I am super proud of you for putting that much work into a project. I am the kind that wants it done before I start, and I am usually on my own. That doesn't make it that much more fun. Thanks for stopping in the middle of the hustle and bustle to send the precious card. It is simply perfect! Congrats to Dr. Booth!!!

I know we haven't met, but I am loving getting to see McKenna grow. I had my first baby, Knox, the very same day at Covenant! (I think our people were all in the waiting room together). Thanks for the fun content!
