doll for ella

I am having so much fun with my new sewing machine! Today I made a doll for Ella. It's an awake/sleep doll. On one side her eyes are open and then when you flip her over, her eyes are closed.

Ella's eyes are already closed for the night but hopefully tomorrow when she wakes up she will love her new doll!

oh happy day

I went to the most fantastic fabric store yesterday! It's the cutest little store with the sweetest girls working there. It's called CITYCRAFT. I wish I lived close by so I could become a regular there!

Snow is in the forecast today and I am more than thrilled to be snowed in with all this! I will post pics of my finished product later.

christmas presents!

my mother in law came in to town (and my father in law...sorry, bob) on their way to colorado last week and she helped me make my first tie and follow my first pattern!! it was so much fun!! she is such an amazing seamstress and good at details so she really helped me with interfacing, pressing edges and all the good things that make this pattern really work.
IMG_1259
i made a matching tie and scarf for my brother and sister in law and for my brother and his girlfriend. it was super hard to find fabric that i really loved for both of them so these my not be the best ones but they will match!! i used a pattern for the scarf and used wonder under as my interfacing and i would not use interfacing that is fusable on both sides next time. and the scarves i just cut a piece of fabric whatever length i liked in a scarf and then sewed around the edges to secure it. hope they dont think thats cheesy...
IMG_1258
IMG_1257
and i finished my first knitting project!! i just finally learned how to bind off (thanks to allison!) and i gave this scarf to jeffs sister sarah.
IMG_1264
i successfully made almost all of the gifts that we gave this year!! i was so excited!! i made halie (my niece) a book on blurb about being with nana and the cousins and i hope she loves it!!
i also made some place mats for both my sister in law and mother in law.
jeff helped me screen print the monogram in the middle and i really love how they turned out. the brown ones will be for the head of the table. jans look different but i already wrapped them so ill have to show you later.

IMG_1260
for my parents and jeff's parents we had brittany take our pics (she is so amazing!) and we bought them some 4x6s of them and we will let them pic which ones they want to order. brittany was just so phenomenal and patient with us. she has such an amazing eye and i was just on cloud nine afterwards for days. i have never had our picture taken professionally and i am so glad we did. my mom has been wanting a pic of the kids for forever so i hope she loves them!!
i really love the idea of the advent conspiracy, samaritan's purse and other organizations that encourage putting Jesus and His birth first and foremost and giving gifts to people all over the world that dont have enough. i really hope that next year we can do that more and making the gifts can just be an added bonus. my sister in law and brother in law already do it and my in laws gave the babies a donation to a children's home for their birthday and i think i am the last one to realize what is going on!! i, like everyone else, get caught up in the gift giving and getting parts of christmas and so often forget the Christ part and how amazing it is that He came to earth to die for us. I am so thankful for that this year and the grace, peace, hope and joy that it brings to me to know that God loves us so much that He sent his only son to die for selfish, worldly, impatient, worrying, petty, vain me. thank you, Jesus, for coming to earth and dying for us. thank you for loving us.

bye bye brycie

i am sitting here trying to put into words what it has been like to have brycie live with us this past semester and how much we are going to miss her, but i really dont think that is possible.
i will miss our daily talks about boys, friends and kids over the fiesta dip that is sure to cure cancer; our late night talks on the kitchen counter or in her bed about life and the future; playing with the kids and both having to tell them no and no one listening to us, knitting and crocheting (because i make her learn everything that i learn immediately); cooking stuff always at the last minute and having to do it super fast and run out the door, baking pudding desserts, doing each others hair (mostly my hair, but still); talking to her friends about their lives, watching thurs night tv and biggest loser, monday night family night, playing scrabble, finding and trading music, eating all the time...but mostly i am just going to miss her.
i cant even begin to explain what it means to have someone so kind, generous, beautiful, thoughtful and such a good listener living with us. she is soooo amazing with my kids. they adore her. she is patient beyond any patience that i have, loving always, tells them when they are wrong, helps them to do better and always so ready to see them, even if it is their loud shrieks that have woken her up when she went to bed at 4. she is so easy going, so laid back, but so understanding if i am all strung out on some stupid drama, and she will listen and empathize even if she is maybe thinking i am crazy and way over analyzing. she is just the most beautiful person inside and out and i will miss seeing her wake up in my house every morning, look at us with that crazy hair and then smile and laugh at the same time, like she does every morning.
love you brycie.
i will always cherish the opportunity i had to get to know you better and see the Lord working and doing amazing things in your life.

new pants

so i was perusing made last night (i just love her. she is amazing) and i came across this tutorial to make little boy pants and decided to give it a go. turned out ok...def a little low waisted (maybe i should have given myself more slack up top) and a little long...and maybe the knee pads are more like shin pads but i tried...

IMG_1243
he was def more interested in everything else going on around him than modeling, but he liked them. he also really liked that he can pull elastic waist pants right off in like 5 seconds. so we will see how much wear we get out of them but it was a fun first try. she also has some with knee pockets that are soooo cute. maybe ill try those next.

my new hobby

So recently I have taken up knitting and I just love it! Kristen inspired me and taught me how. I just finished my first knitting project! All I know how to do is the basic stitch and I don't even know how to do it perfect as you can see from my picture. For some reason I add extra rows so my yarn just gets wider and wider. Who knows what I'm doing! Bob's grandmother also helped me learn how to knit over Thanksgiving break so I wanted to knit her something for Christmas. My original idea was to knit some coasters but my ability to knit in a even square is not there yet. Turns out my uneven rectangle was just perfect for a little gift card holder though! I added a loop and button then sewed the sides together and it turned out so cute.

hunting and screenprinting

tough men.
IMG_1191
IMG_1214IMG_1208
so, jeff went hunting this weekend with some of his best friends, his dad and some of their dads at our friend landon's parent's house in lazbuddie, tx. they went pheasant hunting and apparently got a few of them because our freezer is full of meat! they had so much fun and jeff just loves hunting more than us probably, and getting to do it with his friends is like a dream.
anyway, all of this to say that though my husband is rugged and manly, he can also screen print!! (which is manly too, just not in a kill something kind of way)
IMG_1163
in avery required head gear, he cut out this awesome pheasant stencil and screen printed it on shirts for everyone as a surprise!! they were so fantastic!
(his attention to detail far out weighs any that i have and i just love him for it. he always does things the right way, like al and linds, and i just throw things together and hope they work out!)
IMG_1170
arent they great!! and he added "parham hunt" at the bottom too, its just not pictured.
we are also working on some things for christmas so we will let you know...

lately at our house...

We have had a few visitors at our house this last week and it has been so much fun! Ella just loves when her friends come over to play. First there was Andy...
