belated bday post

What a wonderful birthday I had! Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes on the sweet post that Kristen did for me:) I also loved the sweet shout out on Lindsay's blog too. You girls just made my birthday! Thank you!
This year I spent my birthday in Colleyville at my mom and dad's house.

I woke up to a fun birthday display and candles in a blueberry muffin. Ella loved starting the day off with a happy birthday song and blowing out candles.

My mom took Ella and I to get our nails done and Ella loved it! She sat so still and did so great. She got hot pink polish with white polka dots. The polka dot part was the nail ladies idea and I don't think Ella loved it. When we got in the car she wanted the dots to come off. She said they hurt. Haha! I had to talk her into leaving the polish on, next time I think we will stick with just hot pink:)
Now here was the best part of my birthday...

So Bob has been in North Carolina for the last 4 weeks on an away rotation and I didn't think he was going to be back till last weekend. Well...my sweet, wonderful and amazing husband surprised me on my birthday last Thursday! I was just sitting on my parents couch and Bob walks up behind me and says "I hope you are having a happy birthday!" I was in shock. I turned beat red and just cried. I couldn't believe he was really here! It was the best birthday surprise.

Bob came with North Carolina shirts for all of us. Even little baby McKenna:)

We had a wonderful birthday dinner followed by some very yummy birthday cake.

The next night we went to dinner with some of my very best friends and their hubbies. It was so fun and they took me to one of my new favorite restaurants in Dallas. It's called Tillman's Roadhouse and it is so yummy! They have the best frito pie I have ever had!

It was such a wonderful birthday and I am so blessed to have such amazing friends and family! Thank you everyone!

The East Texas Fair

IMG_3865
last year we went to the west texas fair.  its so crazy to be going to the east texas fair, this year.  its just so crazy to live so far away from where we lived in may.
IMG_3896
brycie came down to visit and we just kinda decided to go, kinda last minute.
we got all the goods- fried pickles, turkey legs, cotton candy...
IMG_3866
(they did not have time to take the butterfly face paint off, were obviously sporting the crop top, and i didnt brush their hair.  we fit right in.)
and it was fantastic!  we rode the carousel, like three times, and they could not stop laughing and smiling.

we heart jordan

So our dear friend Jordan is multi talented. Jordan and her sister Kirstin have a fabulous blog called KoJo Designs that you should totally check out. They are even on this seasons SYTYC contest. Each week they enter a new craft and viewers go here and vote on their fav. I just know they are gonna win.
Anyways, back to why we love Jordan so much. Jordan also has a nak in graphic design. She is where we got the original lullaby lubbock tree from in the first place and today she sent me an idea she had for our new header. We have been wanting to add a little something to the tree and have the words lullaby lubbock written out. Well...she knew just what we needed and created this new fall header for us! We love it! Now our lullaby lubbock tree will have a new look each season:) So fun!
So anyone out there looking for someone sweet and fabulous to work with on graphic design, photography or anything to do with paper, Jordan is your girl. Click here to find her contact info.
Thanks so much Jordan! You are the best!

annual pumpkin patch

The last two years Kristen and I have taken all the kids to the pumpkin patch for some pictures. We didn't get to go back to the original pumpkin patch in Lubbock this year but we did get the kids together for the annual pumpkin patch pics! We were both in the Dallas area yesterday so we took the kids to the Dallas Arboretum with Lindsay and Aly. It was so fun and this place had pumpkins everywhere! We had 8 kids between all of us and of course had them all in matching dresses. Ben coordinated with the girls in stripes:)

We attempted to get a group pic all day, but you know how that goes...

Face painting was a hit! (with everyone but Kinley and Leighton) Everyone got matching butterflies and we were all cracking up at how into it they all got. It was so cute!

Kinley wasn't really sure about the face paint...

its somebody's birthday today....

sc002003e5
so, if you know us at all, you know we both love a birthday.  like, probably, the best day of the year (mine is for sure).  last year was super fun, and this year, since we are apart, its kind of a smaller deal...which is kind of a bummer.  but its what allison wanted this year, and we all decided the last year of our 20s is gonna be kind of a smaller hoopla, as opposed to partying hard, like we did with 28.
and, we have sort of made our bday posts fewer and farther between, lately, because we feel like they have been kind of redundant, so, i thought i would do something a little bit different this year and tell yall a few things you may (or may not) know about allison on her birthday!

-first off, i think you should know, and have probably picked up on, she is a phase person.  like big time.  like whatever she is in to, she is in to.  and she is excited about it.  she could sell it to you the way she talks about it.  and she sticks with it.  whether it be her clothes uniform, a new diet, coffee, tie dye, a new workout idea, what she wants to eat, sewing, knitting, painting, drinking-it all lasts, uh, about 2 or 3 months.  and then its usually on to the next kick. sometimes she comes back to it, sometimes (like fettucini alfredo) she doesnt go back.
IMG_9538_2
-her hair is all real, folks.  its the most hair i have ever seen on anyone's head, and everyone is jealous of it.  its gorgeous and she has an exact system that she uses to get it just right.  and it always looks amazing.
IMG_9087
-she is funny.  really funny.
DSC_0055
-she doesnt take life too seriously.  she and bob are both funny, fun and up for a challenge.  they get excited for change and are confident in who they are, and what God is doing in their life.
-she loves an infomercial.  like, loves them.  she would stay up all night watching them and buy all of them, if she could.  she gets it from her grandmother who sent her, recently, screen printing supplies that she knew allison would love, that she saw on an infomercial.
IMG_3840
-she is always up for a party-always.
-she is so super creative (duh), makes the best lunches (like with all the food groups, cheetos being one, obvisously, and having them all separated out on the plate), and is very loyal.
IMG_1114
-she loves kids.  she would much rather work with kids than adults, i think.  she is so amazing with kids and the best mom i know.
DSC_0003
-she never says anything she doesnt mean.  she never lies and she is never, ever rude.  EVER.  she just doesnt ever let anything out of her mouth that she is not 100% behind.  she really never has to apologize, unlike me, because she watches her words.
DL030005
DSC02047
-she is not all that good at sports. and she got run over.  bad combo. (im not any better, but she can dance and could do drill team in high school.  i had to stick with soccer and cross country cause thats all i had...)
-dark gray and light gray stripes are kind of her signature.  she probably has a shirt, sweater and jacket with them on it.  she really loves stripes, overall.
-she loves to try new food.  she used to be a chicken strips for every meal kind of person, but now she loves to try all kinds of things.  she loves to cook and she's a great one.
-we met, in 7th grade reading class.  we had the same guess green outfit that we both loved.  then, she had a hotel party (she was so cool) and invited me because her best friend was friends with my best friend (linds) and we have been attached at the hip ever since.
pat kristen purple
-we both went to acu together until i transferred our junior year (thats a whole other post).
DSCN6695
-she met bob her sophomore year and they fell in love over a game of scattergories (its my moms favorite story ever, and she always makes them retell it).  they didnt know each other really, and they played scattergories on the same team.  they were sitting next to each other and their knees touched.  they were both so excited that their knees were touching and didnt want to move, so they kept their legs in the same position (probably cramping) the whole time.  love at first game-thats real people.
-she is married to bob.  bob's brother, matt, is married to alyson.  alyson was my college roomate.  and both their middle names are leigh! how fun is that! and, jon, bob and matt's youngest brother is also married to an allison!
DSC01158_1
-we worked construction the summer after they met for her dad.  he was being so nice and payed us out of his own pocket.  we thought we were such hard workers.  we filled dumpsters and cleaned houses.  we moved sheet rock and probably did more damage than help, but we loved it.  one of my favorite summers.  and it helped us lose the freshman 30 that we both gained...(thanks bryce!)
-she loves music and always has a good mix cd.  she has made 100s in her life.  oldies are probably her favorites.
-she loves old movies, too.  (and by old, i mean, 80s)
IMG_3354
IMG_0501
-and she is the best friend you could ever ask for.  everyone who knows her falls instantly in love with her and wants to be her best friend.  she is kind, so compassionate and fun to be with.
love you, al, and hope you have great last year of your 20's!!!!

breakfast pizza

I know I have said it before but I LOVE the blog Our Best Bites. It is my new go to for any time I don't know what to fix for dinner. Every single thing I have made from it I have loved.
When it comes to feeding my cute little picky eater Ella, I am at a loss. It's a hit or miss with this kid. One day pizza is her favorite food and the next day she gags on it. You never know what she is going to like. Breakfast is one of the hardest meals for me to find something besides pop tarts and nutri-grain bars for Ella. So when I saw this recipe for breakfast pizzas on ourbestbites I decided to give it a try.
Picnik collage
It was a HUGE hit! She loved them. I loved them.
It's a english muffin dipped in an egg mixture and then topped with bacon and cheese. You could really get creative with what you put on top. I'm the kind of girl that orders my hamburgers plain and dry so I tend to stick with the basics.

Go here for the recipe.

north carolina

A couple of weekends ago, Ella and I traveled with Bob to North Carolina. Bob is at the point in medical school where he is applying for residency. North Carolina has a great program and has always been one of the schools he has been interested in. Neither of us had ever been before so we went to check everything out. It was just beautiful!
DSC_1847
We started the trip off right by eating at our all time favorite place Chipotle. If Lubbock only knew what they were missing out on...

There were so many fun things to do in North Carolina, Ella was loving it! We went to the park one day and this fantastic kids museum another day.
Picnik collage

It's obvious where Ella gets her mad skills from:)

The museum we went to was called Marbles Kids Museum and it was out of this world. We are used to the good ole science spectrum here in Lubbock and this place blew it out of the water.
Ella didn't know what to do with herself. We closed the place down and I think she would have stayed all night!
Picnik collage

There was so many different things for her to do. She played cashier, went surfing, built with legos, put on her own broadway show on a stage, and of course danced. There was this one part of the museum where an oversized ipod was playing music along with a wall of mirrors and tutus to put on. Once Ella discovered this, she played with nothing else. She comes alive when there is music she can dance to. It is one of my favorite things about her.
Picnik collage
Like two peas in a pod.
It was such a wonderful trip and I wish I would have taken so many more pictures. Who knows...maybe we will be back there someday:)

homemade GAK

Tonight Ella and I made some homemade GAK. I saw the recipe on one of my favorite blogs ourbestbites.
I wasn't sure if Ella was going to like it, I actually thought she was going to hate it. Ella is the kind of kid that has to finger paint with a paint brush because she doesn't like to get her hands messy with paint.
She proved me wrong though...
Picnik collage
Picnik collage
She LOVED the slimy, ooey, gooey GAK!
DSC_1925
Here is what you need to make your very own GAK
-Borax
-4 oz. of glue
-food coloring
-1 1/2 cups water divided
Picnik collage
Dissolve 1 teaspoon of borax in 1 cup of water and set aside. Pour glue in bowl and add in 1/2 cup of water. Stir together and add your choice of food coloring. Then add in the other 1 cup of water that has borax in it. As you stir it will begin to thicken. Get your hands in there and enjoy your homemade GAK.
(sorry some of my pics are so yellow. I have these awesome fluorescent lights in my kitchen that don't always bring out the best in my photos)
