My sweet friends Amy and Chris got married last weekend and I can not wait to show you guys some pictures from there beautiful wedding! They are on my dad's camera so I will hopefully get them soon. The girls were flower girls and it was the most precious thing to see. Anyways, more about the wedding later.
A couple months ago Amy instagramed a picture of a saying. She commented that she wished the word Happy was Joyful in the saying. I have had that in the back of my head for awhile now and thought it would make a great wedding gift. My friend Sylvia makes wooden signs so after getting some tips from her I got started. Bob bought 4x4x1/4 inch birch wood and got it cut to 12X18 pieces for me. I painted one piece solid black with chalkboard paint and the other white and yellow.
I made the sayings on my silhouette and then cut them out on contact paper. Next time I will not use such fine font. The sign with larger font was MUCH easier.
I read on some blog that if you paint the base color first then it will cause less bleeding. That way the first color that bleeds is the color of the background. I don't know if it actually helped but it made sense in my head.
After the chalkboard paint dried, I then painted a white layer.
As you can see, there was some bleeding.
It was time consuming but I touched it up with a tiny paint brush. I also went around each letter on the Arise and Shine to make it stand out more. My yellow was too light to see. It was the perfect busy project while I watched my Monday night show The Bachelorette.
After I finished each sign I took a piece of chalk and rubbed it over the whole sign and then kind of brushed it off. Not sure what that did but I think it made it look cool.
Hope everyone's having a great week!
