Joe Dirt meets Rachel Green

Today I took Ella to get her hair cut, evened out, blended, I'm not really sure what to call it but it is a vast improvement! If case you guys missed my previous post, here is a before and after.
PicMonkey Collage
I was so surprised and impressed with how much length she kept on Ella's hair. She did lots of long layers, gave Ella some thick bangs and blended all the blunt cuts. It is very much a hairdo.

Ella has been longing for her hair to grow long again so I know she is a little sad about this set back. As I tucked her in bed tonight she said, "mom, I like my haircut a little bit, but just a little bit:)"

Today was our first day of no tv for Ella. It took me a while to get used to it and made me realize how often I turn it on. It was so good though! I might not be saying that in a couple of days but I really enjoyed a tv free house today. McKenna is still sick so we never left the house. We were very productive. Painted the front door, cleaned out Ella's drawers and crafts galore.
Painting my front door has been on my to-do list ever since Kristen painted hers. I have never loved the sea foam green our door was.

I painted it Benjamin Moore Hale Navy and I love it.

Sorry for all the blurry phone pics, hope everyone has a wonderful week!

DIY Muno and Joe Dirt

We love us some Yo Gabba Gabba in our house. It has always been the one show McKenna will somewhat sit still for and watch. I love how they sing a song about everything and then you can never get it out of your head.( Pajama party time, jumping around is currently stuck in my head.)
We painted some pumpkins this weekend and I made mine look like Muno. As soon as I saw the crazy wart pumpkin, he was all I could think about:)

McKenna still giggles every time she sees it.

Ella and McKenna loved painting and glittering up their pumpkins.

Ella wanted her big one to be all gold. No glitter, just gold. She was very particular on that.

McKenna just wanted to paint her entire arm gold.

Now onto the DIY Joe Dirt haircut…
DSC_3109
Yep.
Ella cut her own hair tonight.
McKenna has been sick all weekend so it was just Bob and Ella that went to small group tonight. We usually meet at someones house and it was supposed to be ours tonight. Since McKenna still had a fever, we moved small group to a meeting room at Schlotzsky's. There is usually about 10 kids but tonight there was only 4. Ella and her sweet friend Madalyn were at a table doing arts and crafts. They decided to crawl under the table and do their own type of crafting.
I get this text from Bob tonight.
So Ella and Madalyn cut their hair at Schlotskys.
All things considered its not that bad.
Think chuncky layers.
I was shocked and had no idea what to expect and much less what to do. All I could do was laugh. I immediately called my mom and asked how to handle the situation. We both agreed not to focus on the bad haircut and more on the issue of doing something she knew was a no no.
I see Bob and Ella pull up so I am holding open the front door as they are getting out of the car. I just act normal and start saying, "Hey! How was small group? What did y'all do?" Just as Ella walks up she answers my question with, "I cut my hair." I immediately pee in my pants and am crying from laughing so hard. Bob sent her to her room as soon as he saw my reaction so she didn't see me laughing. Once I pulled myself together and got all my giggles out, we called Ella in to talk. I explained how disappointed I was that she didn't use the scissors the way she knew how. When I told her that there would be no TV all week, she lost it. I'll probably lose it at some point this week too. No TV might be just as hard on me.
I guess I will take her somewhere this week to even her hair out. Oh goodness.
Haha! I will keep you guys updated on Ella's new look:)

guess what today is?!

Today is Kristen's birthday! (and Britney Spears) We used to think it was way cooler that Britney shared Kristen's bday than we do now.
I am going to stick with the same idea that Kristen did on my birthday and tell you guys a few things that you may or may not know about her.
31352_394275937615_121056362615_4229980_3818386_n
If you only know Kristen from this blog let me just start by saying that yes she really is that nice, beautiful and fun. She is honestly the most thoughtful, sincere, caring and encouraging person I know. She never puts herself first and does everything with a positive outlook and smile on her face. Even after a night of being up all night with kids. Her love for God and others shines through and will brighten your day just by being around Kristen. She is the best friend you could ever ask for. She's the real deal.
DSCN1000
-Kristen doesn't like to do things by the book. She is a rule breaker, a rebel if you will. She is not one to read a set of instructions and yet still everything she does, makes or bakes comes out fabulous. I have tried to be more like her in this way but it just never works out for me.
IMG_0681
-Kristen didn't own an iron until she needed it for something with crafts.
-She is a big clothes hanger. She hangs most of her and her kids clothes rather than putting them in drawers. Light pink is a big part of her wardrobe, its her color.
-I have never met someone who can eat spicier food than Kristen. She is in a league of her own. She goes through a jar of jalapenos weekly.

-This girl knows how to have fun. She loves theme parties, karaoke and dance parties. She throws the best birthday parties too. They are always so creative and unique.
-You would find a lot of Garth Brooks and Celine Dion on Kristen's playlist. She loves music. One of her favorite things in life is driving around listening to music and singing at the top of her lungs.
DSC_0304
-Kristen and I really bonded in middle school as we did off season for every sport together. We have never really been gifted in anything involving athletics. We took soccer up one summer and we were so bad that the coach didn't even care to give us a try. He never even got our names right! He called us Karen and Anita all season! For real. It was hilarious.
DSC_2103
-Kristen is so fun and spontaneous when it comes to her hair. We have both been pulling our hair through a cap since middle school. Every slumber party we had would always involve something with dying/bleaching hair and I would always end up peeing in my pants from laughing so hard. Kristen looks fantastic as a blonde or as a brunette. I love that she switches it up, I wish I was brave with my hair like her. We even did a perm in a box on her hair while she was prego with the twins. It didn't turn out like we thought and she ended up having to chop it all off.

-Kristen and I were at ACU together for the first two years of college. We gained the freshman 15+ at a rapid rate and then went on so many crash diets. It was an up and down battle for both of us for a while:)

-Kristen was freshman prom queen in high school and was voted best smile senior year. She loved high school and some of her best friends are friends from high school.
-She loves tie-dye, crocheting (duh), sewing, crafting, diet coke, candy, billy banks tae-boe, newies, baking, staying up late, shopping online, and she always comes up with the best ideas.(circle scarf)

-She has the most amazing family ever and her kids are just precious!
I love you so much Kristen and I hope that you have a wonderful birthday. I am so sad that we can't be together today to celebrate. Happy 29th!

locks o' love

so, since i didnt really do ben any favors with the haircut i gave him (while he was on the run, mind you) jeff decided it was his turn to give it a try.
Picnik collage
and i just cried!! i never cried with aves, and was just so excited, but with every perfect blonde lock that jeff sheered away, i just melted. my little baby is now a boy. not even a toddler. like a grown up. practically out the door to college and not wanting his mom around. i miss him already.

i'd love to show you what the new haircut looks like, but trying to get a two year old boy to stand still is not one of my strengths...

hair clips

so, my friend lindsey very sweetly asked me to make her some clips (even though she is about to find out how ghetto they really are...), but i was so flattered! she is the funniest person i know and i have not seen her since we were jet setters and went to australia together when i was in college. she now has a gorgeous little girl that has the cutest dark hair and cheeks. love them! and its the first craft i have made in the new house. i havent gotten out the sewing machine yet, but it was so nice to hold the ol' hot glue gun in my hand. i mean, what is it about having a hot glue gun in hand....anyway, here are some pics of the clips. thanks linds for being so sweet and wanting some of my dorky late night creations. you have to send me pics of gorgeous sofia in them!

haircuts!

Yesterday was a big day for Avery and Ella. One of those days that a mom would probably put down in the baby book right next to a lock of hair. We might not have saved any hair but we did get some great pictures of Avery and Ella's first official haircut! It was so fun and the girls did so great!
Picnik collage
Avery got A LOT of hair cut off! Kristen and I were breaking a sweat when we saw her make the first cut but the end result is the cutest little bob I have ever seen! It looks so cute on Avery!
Picnik collage
Ella loves a ponytail so she just got about an inch trimmed off. I was so tempted to get her a matching haircut like Avery...maybe next time:)
Picnik collage
As you can see, Avery was beyond thrilled about her new look and was already talking about her next haircut before we even got out the door. She might get that from her mom:) Ella was still soaking in the moment...
Such a fun day!

happy birthday pop-pa!

You will never guess who turns the big 6-oh today!
DSC_0269
My Dad!
He is the most amazing man and I am so blessed to have him as my dad and Ella's Pop-pa. Talk about an all around perfect man! He has a calm and quiet presence about him but still stands out in a crowd. He is solid as a rock when it comes to loyalty, family, and golf. He never thinks twice about doing things for others before himself. I think the world of my dad and love him so much. He has a great sense of humor, but it wasn't until his surprise 60th birthday party last Friday when I saw just how funny he is!
Picnik collage
My dad has fantastic hair. It's thick and natural brown with not a gray hair on his head. People always think he dyes his hair because it looks so great.
Well...my dad decided that since he was turning 60 he would dye his hair gray! (so he thought) This was a little secret he kept to himself. Little did he know that we also had a secret we were keeping to ourselves. We were helping plan a surprise birthday party for my dad last Friday. He just so happened to plan his surprise hair appointment an hour before his surprise party. The two secrets came out at the same time and it was classic. Maybe one of my favorite moments.
My dad gets his hair dyed as a joke and thinks he is just going to a birthday dinner with 5 close couple friends. Instead he walks into a room with 80 of his dearest friends that came to celebrate his 60th birthday! I don't know who was more surprised, my dad or the party guests! I am still shocked by what my dad looks like with his new hair color and it just cracks me up! He went to Sally's Beauty Supply all by himself and bought a silver dye color. Somehow his hair turned more of a blonde than silver. He looks like a mix between Ken Barbie, Ted Danson, and George Jones! Oh dad...
Picnik collage
Ella's reaction was priceless. She couldn't stop rubbing his hair!
IMG_0979
Anna and I still don't know what to think about it?! My moms reaction...lets just say she wasn't exactly thrilled about his new look:)

Happy Birthday to the craziest 60 year old man I know! I love you dad!

for bryce and blaine!!

brycie decided to needed a hair change before her big-life-moving-and-starting-nursing-school-change and before she could chicken out she found herself in the chair of a hair lady she had never met and took the giant plunge to

Ella gets a haircut!

So Ella has had a little mullet/rat tail thing going on lately.  I have noticed it for some time now and everybody thought I was crazy to even think about cutting it off.  Well the other day one of our dear friends commented on Ella's rat tail and that was all it took for me!  It confirmed that I wasn't the only one thinking business on top party in the back so Ella got a haircut last night!!! She loves her fresh new look!
