Chevron Scarf

So, my beautiful friend kate, of kate mccoy photography fame, asked if I could make her a chevron scarf...I really did not ask her near enough details about how long or wide or colors she wanted...hmmm...sorry kate.  I sent her examples along the way (which you guys are lucky enough to get the pleasure of viewing in this post.  you're welcome) and she said she loved it so hopefully its exactly what you want kate!

This is what it ended up as.
It began like this
IMG_0357
The cream is too yellow and then my friends said the gray looked purple.
So I scrapped it and started the next one
chevron scarf
Then I was up in the air on if it should have pointy edges because I wanted the edges to be gray (so that the scarf was mostly gray.  I don't know why, I just though that the mostly gray was more kate).

Its scary that this pic is out there on the world wide web but here it is with pointy edges.  Kind of weird.

So I just kept the edges gray and just added some random edging.  (this pic is also scary for so many reasons...no make up and look at how clean I am! Hahaha, I know y'all all want to know my secrets...ok, its letting your kids run their greasy and muddy hands all over the mirror and then forget to ever wash it off for weeks.  You don't have to follow this formula exactly.  Its pretty lenient)
Kate! Thanks for the awesome idea!! I hope you love it and I will make you another one if you want you decide you don't love this one.  It is finally on the way to your house with your super late wedding present...

Crochet gifts galore

There has been a plethora of needs from my friends for crochet goodies lately and I am loving it (do people really say plethora?  I had to spell check it...anyway,).
I made a ball that I turned into a rattle.
BAR_3927
Which will be impossible for the baby to hold so that was really great thinking on my part.
BAR_3926
I made these little baby headbands with bows on them.  I don't know the size of real babies heads and I should have checked with all my friends with newborns but I did not make that happen...
BAR_3932
So here is to a random assortment of head sizes.
They are kind of like little baby sweatbands.
The 80s is back...right?
BAR_3937
(I don't know why they are on the floor for picture taking.  and why I didn't move the curtain.  I don't know.)
 I made some little loafers

after I saw these over here. She has some super cute stuff!
(I mean, nothing like Night Owl Designs!)
and a few hats.

And after hat day, when they had those ugly hats, I thought that maybe I should make my own kids some cuter ones.
It was my first time with the over-the-ear things and I think I made the tie things too short but overall they were pretty easy.
I looked at the free patterns on lion brand's website and that really helped.
BAR_3941
(yes, they drew on their lips with markers like lipstick.  avery kind of went for more of a goth look...)
This one is not hot pink enough so no one likes it.  I had to bribe them to try it on :)

Of course last night he would wear the girl one but this morning not the boy one? I don't know.
Sass wanted a turn too.

Avery's Harlequin Blanket

My dream for this blanket was not what it turned out to be.  Always a little bit of a bummer.  I wanted it to go from white to cream to light pink and then to darker pink and keep going on with pinks from there.  It ended up peach and I dont really love the cream.  or tan.  whatever color that is.  I like that it is soft colors and that the blanket itself is really soft.  So I am excited about that.

I wanted it to have all kinds of pink and hot pink for aves bc she loves hot pink.  I thought she would not love this one because there isnt any hot pink in it, but she decided that she wants to keep it and actually slept with it last night.

So, in some ways, my dream is complete with this blanket.

Baby Olivia's Homemade madness

So, my friend Meg just had a baby and I wanted to make her something like Allison did for Brittany that she could hang on her hospital door.
DSC_2727
Forgot to leave room for her name. Bummer.
Luckily for me, I also had another idea that I had also been working on at the same time....I am such a back up planner!  (Hahahhahah! ok.  I am NOT a back up or anything kind of planner.  But this time I did.  yea for this time.)
IMG_4519
Corkboard instead of canvas so she can use push pins and stuff to write and leave Olivia's hospital bracelet or first pair of gloves or whatever on the board and write whatever she wants on the chalkboard part.
IMG_4521
I painted her name on it and am definitely still up in the air on the correctness of this decision, but, hey, its on there.  My painting skills leave a lot to be desired.
And I made her a couple of hats and a headband.

Mornin' Yall

So, yesterday was my half birthday.  Yes.  I love it almost as much as my birthday.  I know, the dorky birthday lover now has another day to celebrate-yea (insert finger spinning around in a circle boringly) But, really, its so much fun to be able to celebrate being 29 and 1/2 and we had fun.  (Like McDonalds, pool, double daves, mavs win at the last minute kind of fun.  awesome).
I thought, in honor of my half birthday I would share a few weird quirky things about myself that yall may not know yet....
1. I have a quick dancy thing that I do whenever something tastes good.  We call it my food dance. Turns out Sassy does it too.  The food shimmy.
2. I love magazines and books.  If I get to a long article in a magazine and I dont have time to read it right then, I have to put it down and I cant skip over it and just look at pictures- I have to read the whole thing from start to finish.  so odd.
3. I dont like mushy foods like beans but I have recently opened up my repituar to hummus and guacamole.  (This is not to be confused by creamy stuff- I love creamy dips and dressings and stuff.  Mushy is just gross.)  I may have to try beans...tomorrow.
4. Recently, I signed up for a photoshop class in LA even though I knew I couldnt go, but I really wanted to pretend I could, so I got their emails and kept emailing back acting like I could go.  I actually tried to get a babysitter but I couldnt find one.  Maybe next time. Crazy friend that is up for anything or crazy friend that thinks she can just jump on a plane and go to LA?? I dont know.  Either way, crazy. I want to learn photoshop so bad and its the annoying thing that I talk about all the time.  I havent bought it yet but my amazing mom gave me some money for it for mothers day (i know, amazing) but I am too worried I wont be able to figure it out so I havent actually bought it yet.  I will probably annoyingly talk about it once it happens and every detail that I try to teach myself.  I also think I am a graphic designer. hahahhahaha! I mean, I know I am NOT and all of that, but that is my dream life job someday so I can make invitations and all kinds of stuff.  Hence photoshop.  Someday.
5. I am pretty socially shy and awkward and say the most terrible things when Im nervous.  I think its hard to be my wingman in times like this because I can be pretttttyyyyy embarrassing...
6. Concerts are some of my favorite things ever.  Even if I dont know the band (which is not true in my own personal concerts in my car- if I dont know the song, I cant listen.  That makes it pretty hard to find new music to listen to so I have to trick myself into just playing it in the background and pretending I know it.  I am not good at that, either.  I change the song 1000 times to find the exact right one to fit my mood, even if I am just turning onto my street) Back to the concerts, sorry.  Even if I dont know the band and they are live, I will love it and dance and pretend I know the lyrics.  Im so cool it hurts.
That is enough randomness.
Oh, and I stayed up til three last night making these things

and I am obviously bow crazy right now.
And more obviously Jeff was on call last night and I cant sleep when he is gone.  And that is 2-3 times a week.  So, I am usually so fun to be around.  Ask my kids.
Happy friday guys and I just heard its National Donut Day so I think we are headed to Shipleys right now...

Week in Review

We had a crazy fun week.
We have been back and forth from every city in Texas and it has been so much fun.  On Wednesday night, my parents got tickets from a friend to go to the Mavs game and it was amazing!! Uhmazing.  We got to bring friends and they did too and so did my brothers.  It was really so much fun.  Aaaannnddd my cousins were there (except lins and we missed you like crazy).  Party wednesday, I like to call it.
And we WON!!! It really was out of body fun experience! GOOO MAVS!! MFFL!!!
IMG_4377
Lucky for me, my out of town friend just recently (like yesterday) moved a lot closer and we got to have them come with us...
IMG_4376
IMG_4378
woohoo!!!  And my parents brought Al's parents and it was a family affair!
Then, yesterday night munch showed us her first loose tooth
IMG_4375
I couldnt believe it!! What is the exchange rate from tooth fairy to tooth, these days?
Jennifer said I should make a pouch or something for her to put her tooth in.  I dont know what I am going to do but I am def excited about that.
In between these fun times we jumped in our car and went to temple last minute to see their new house and it was so fun! The kids played so well together and it was a fun, fast day.  Their house is so so cute and I know Allison has fantastic plans that are gonna look so cute!  We also got to see ashley and mason and it just turned out to be such a fun day.

Before we left (do yall love how in chronological order this post is??? I know, youre welcome), I sewed together my granny blanket.
DSC_1785
DSC_1787
I am excited about how it turned out but it is pretty small.  Have yall ever made one?? What did you do if you were short a few squares?  The thought of making 50 more squares makes me tired and my friend Julie has been telling me different ways I can do it with bigger squares.  I dont know what I want to do.  I had kind of a vision of it with all the same size squares but I dont know.
And I kind of highlighted my hair before all of this.  So, there you have it, our week backward.

Crochet Chargers

For this mother's day I made my mom in law a few crochet chargers.  Nothing too exciting, but I like how they turned out.  I also made my grandmother in law (?) some pot holders. They were all nothing to write home about, but they will def be fun on a table.  And since I get on kick...

I should probably show yall this with a plate on them, but you get the idea.

I think she liked them.  I tried some with twine for a more natural look but I havent finished yet.  I will get back to you with those.  And maybe you could get real rope and do like a door rug?  what do you call those?  Entry way rugs?  Door mats.  Thats it.  Door mats.  gotcha.  Ok, Sorry.  Thanks for my brain fart. I clearly need a little more R&R squeezed into this sunday night...
Hope you guys had a great weekend :)

3/30/11

a few goodies (of the mouth and head varieties)

This last weekend was a blast.  (I know that its either a little too early to be talking about the weekend or wayyyy too late, but, here you go anyway). Jeff was home all weekend and I just couldnt stand it.  He looked so different when I actually got to see him in the daylight.
Then we had a couple of neighborhood hang outs on our porch where we drank and ate, and it was so relaxing.  I made a few different kinds of cookies and experimented with the butter cookies that I usually make and I am so glad I did.  I used regular sugar instead of powdered sugar and they were just a little sweeter and soooo good.  I also made my chocolate chip cookies.
Jordan was talking in her blog about having a cookie that is "yours" and that people kind of know you will bring to events.  She has been on the search for one and she said she found one that is perfect for her.
IMG_6172-1024x682
I really never looked for one, I just happened to google the words "butter" and "chocolate chip cookies" and betty crocker just found me.  Then that recipe has vanished from the internet so I can braggingly call it my own and act like I am an amazing baker that just made it up.  I like that Jordan's is complex and has healthy things in it, like apple sauce and nuts and fruit.  She is complex and fun and someone who is full of surprises.  I think it fits her perfectly.  Mine, on the other hand, are pretty basic, not the prettiest, most creative or surprising cookies at the sweets table; they are ultra sweet in maybe a kind of annoying way (and I even swap semi sweet choc chips because, who likes those anyway, with milk choc so there really is no getting any sweeter with these things) and maybe a little over the top.  They can be a little bit too much and can get old kind of fast, but they are loyal and will always be a comfort.  I think that pretty much fits me and I am glad that it is my cookie.  Thanks for that idea jordan.  I just love it.
 Just a great weekend.
ocbrownies1-4
Then, after all that fun and baking and thinking about baking, I saw these.  So now you can guess whats in my oven right now.  And now that there are blonde oreos (my personal fave and I have now gotten my husband to occasionally choose them over the choc ones) I feel like there needs to be a blonde version of these (hello-I love a blonde and a brunette equally!).  So, I think those may be in my oven in about an hour.  I will let you know.
I also made a few things for the shop.
A few more baby hats, some felt crown from Avery's party, and a few crochet flower pins and headbands.

And dont we all agree that Allison needs to add the door hangers to the shop!? Arent they so cute! She is so talented!  And they could be for parties, babies, holidays, etc-she can do so much with this.  I am so excited about it.
Moral of the story-make the brownies.
(They are better than the cake batter bark.  just sayin)
