Bunk Beds

So, Jeff wanted to get the kids bunk beds.  We researched it a little and knew that we wanted to do something pretty cheap since we didn't know how long the twins would be sharing a room and when the girls would move in together and all of that.  We decided to get some from ikea and we just jumped in the car on Sunday to make it happen.  We are never on the ball, but maybe a wild hair came over us :)
We drove to dallas, grabbed my father in law, drove to ikea, dropped father in law back off, and drove home quickly, in hopes that we could put it together on Sunday night.
Unfortunately we were not that on the ball, and we couldn't get them up before the kids needed to go to bed.
So, monday morning I called Julie and made her come over and help me put them together so it would be like a "while you were out" for Jeff while he was at work.

Luckily she is the best friend ever and was so great about giving up her free day to help us put them together.
Earlier in the day I had tried to take the beds apart, and didn't realize how to get the drill to effectively go backward and take the screws out...so I just quit.
I am a genius. (and that is a hard word to spell).

Luckily she is smart and a direction reader so I had to fully rely on her to tell me how to do everything.
(This is a huge pattern in my relationships.  I am not the instruction manual reader nor am I the smart one.  Luckily God seems to bring me smart people who also know how to focus on details and then I cling to them)

And the kids had a lot of fun helping us :)

Then it was time to test them out :)

We moved some toys over and the kids needed to test those out too.

And I hung up some shelves but there is not a good after pic with all the junk out of the way.
So, this will be post 1 of bunk beds and I will put the after up after I throw everything in the closet and pretend that its actually clean over here.  At least for a second.
And there is a trundle!!
Avery has been sleeping with the twins for the last two nights and they are loving it!  I wish I could get all of her c-r-a-p out of her room and just have all the kids in one room...
a dream is a wish your heart makes.
Maybe it will come true by the time we move and have to start all over again rearranging everything!
Thank you Julie, Katelyn and Lily for all your help!! We could not have done it without y'all!!

Hairmageddon

Really bad hair experience this weekend, y'all.
You may be thinking to yourself that maybe I tried to dye it or highlight it or perm it myself (again) and then something crazy happened and I had to cut it all off (again) but it wasn't even my fault this time.
Whew. Ok. Let me start at the beginning, I am so sorry.
I don't want to get ahead of myself.
I love to change my hair.  Right.  I pretty much do one thing and then like it ok and then LOVE it right before I change it to something else.
So, I knew that when my hair was behaving better than ever on the day that I had my hair appt that I had scheduled way in advance, that that was normal. Your hair has the most amazing ability to look more incredible than it ever has in its life (even if you don't even blow dry it), on the day of your appt, you know?  It was like I had full hair and not just five mousy brown strings.
But, I knew this was coming and was fully ready to just ignore my hair and get excited for blonde.  I had been ready to be back for a while, and wasn't looking back.  Eyes on the prize.
I dropped the twins off at school and didn't stop smiling until I got to my appt.  New highlights are the best thing in the world.  (Well-good ones.) So, I sit down and he is nice and I, of course get nervous about talking to someone I don't really know, so I start saying crazy things and he realizes I am crazy. Then he  won't even work on my hair for like 20 min trying to deduce how crazy I actually am.  I could see it in his eyes that all of this self criticism and me thinking I am so hilarious, combined with my usually diarrhea of the mouth when I am nervous, was really making him nervous.
Once I had talked him into embracing my weirdness, he did this painting thing to my hair-which I was really excited about.
So, I sat in the chair, once it had been applied, and just soaked up the sweet smell of bleach pouring into each particle of hair.  I loved it. I felt like I was home.
When it had been the appropriate amount of time, they rinsed it out and talked to each other about how great it looked and we all realized I wasn't going to be able to dry it because I had to go get the crazies so they just brushed it out and let me go.
As they were brushing, I could tell that this was not the blonde that makes allison pee her pants because its so white against my dark hair and looks like worms (every time.  that girl is so predictable) and that it may be a little orange...

Unfortunately, it didn't turn out exactly how I wanted.
I looked a little bit like I had just gotten out of prison and the last thing I did before getting locked up was lay out in the sun with sun in.
For real.
So, bummer.
Needless to say, the next day, Kathryn, my neighbor's recommended color specialist saved the day!

She laughed at my hair (confused that it had happened yesterday with my 4 month roots very visible) and said she couldn't fix it all over because it was damaged but did what she could. Now it is in a much more manageable state.
Thank you kathryn.
saved my life.
Needless to say, today we were able to go to church (without a hat), drive to ikea, get bunk beds that we don't know where we will put and what we will do with, and see my in laws who didn't even flinch at my new hair.  So, all in all, the crazy drama turned out pretty good.
Oh, and I am a blonde now :)

lounging, crafting and winning

I hope everyone had a great weekend!
We had a pretty relaxing weekend at home. McKenna got a little 24 hour tummy bug so we did a lot of laying around on Friday night. She snuggled in her sleeping bag and watched Yo Gabba Gabba over and over while Ella laid on Dignan watching iCarly on my ipod.

McKenna was feeling much better on Saturday and thought she was so big time coloring with Ella. She was cracking me up! I love seeing them play together, such sweet sisters.

When McKenna went down for a nap, Ella and I decided to make a Valentine craft that I saw on pinterest. We took a few crayons and sharpened them to get some shavings. We then took a piece of wax paper and folded it in half.
Then you unfold it and sprinkle the crayon shavings on one side.

The crayons melted very quickly!

It didn't take a lot of shavings to fill up the paper once melted.

Once cooled off I cut the wax paper into heart shapes, poked a small hole through the top and hung them with a string from the window.

They look so pretty when the sun shines through them.

Once the kids went to bed, Bob and I played Rummikub! I grew up watching my Granny and Aunts play this game and it quickly became one of my favorites. Bob does not love it as much as I do so when he agreed to play Rummikub instead of watching The King's Speech that he had been saving on the DVR, I was so excited!

I kicked his butt guys! I mean, not by just a little either. I was 5 for 5! I'm still bragging about it around here:)

Wait till you guys hear about Kristen's weekend!

Valentine Wreath

I have a confession.
BAR_4508
I don't really like yarn wreaths.
I know.
I am a blogger, I have tons of yarn (I even like yarn ornaments), and love a glue gun-
How can I turn my back on yarn wreaths???
BAR_4509
I know.
I can't pinpoint what it is about them.  They just aren't my favorite.
Then my neighbor made one for Christmas and it was so cute.
Then I saw the red and pink one that is flying all over pinterest and I kind of warmed up to the whole idea of making my own.
BAR_4510
Then we had a moment of free time before we picked up Avery and I gave in and we swooped into Michael's and grabbed some Styrofoam before I could find my way out of there.
Then I enlisted some help
BAR_4514
(a little bit crazy over here when we get out the glue gun)
BAR_4515
BAR_4518
(don't worry, she has really steady hands. and I helped a little.  against her will)
BAR_4516
She really is my sidekick when it comes to most things.  It is so fun having a daughter to craft with.  Avery likes it, but not like sassy.  She wants to be totally involved (ehh um- doing it completely on her own) in almost everything I am doing.  Love you, sass pot.
BAR_4511
She was pretty proud of her new creation.
BAR_4520
and I think it turned out cute.
IMG_1025
I don't love the twine and want a way to hang it that is cuter.
I will let you know.
BAR_4522
Oh, and ben loved it too.
BAR_4526
 So that is a plus.

Here is orange that was on sale at michaels and actually the only orange they had...still not my favorite.  I will keep you posted.
Happy Friday guys!
